The letter reads: “In 2015 we marked the 70th anniversary of Victory Day. World War II involved the vast majority of the world's nations including all of the great powers. Marked by mass deaths of civilians and the strategic bombing of industrial and population centres it resulted in millions of fatalities. Unfortunately, there are people who want to rewrite history, revise the outcome of the war. The Prague authorities are mulling dismantling a monument to renowned Soviet marshal Ivan Konev. For us, residents of the Vologda Region, the feat of our fellow countryman will remain a symbol of courage and patriotic spirit. Vologda’s residents insist that the monument should stay.”

According to a newly created legend, Ded Moroz was born on November 18th in Veliky Ustyug, a small town in the Vologda region. The date of the magician's birthday was chosen by weather chart makers as their long-term observations register that on that very day the ground of Veliky Ustyug is usually covered with a heavy snow blanket. No one knows his exact age. Although experts insist his career began more than 150 years ago, the first mentions of his appearance in noble Russian families on Christmas and New Year eve date back to the beginning of the 19th century.

Established in autumn 2010, the Lace Museum was visited by 250,000 people interested in lace-making. The museum hosts several expositions in nearly 600 sq m of exhibition space. The exhibition extends over two levels and covers all ages of lace-making from the early 17th century - showcasing gorgeous and rare hand-made designs, to later industrial production and through to contemporary lace presented in haute couture.
