Overview
Main functions of the ministry:
- regulation of relations in the sphere of culture (art, cinema, protection and usage of historical and cultural heritage);
- support of museums, culture, art and national artistic trades institutions;
- preservation, revival and development of traditional crafts of the Vologda Region;
- management of service of libraries.
One of the primary functions of the Ministry of Culture is the preservation of the archives of Government Ministries and Departments and related administrative units, and this involves the selection of those records having permanent value, the arrangement and description of archives, and the provision of a reference service to scholars, to Government Ministries and Departments and to the general public. As the government's recordkeeping authority, the Ministry works to ensure effective information management and acts as the official guardian of Vologda Oblast's public archives.
The holdings of the archives and records service comprise records in a variety of media. This includes paper-based textual records, electronic records as well as audio-visual, photographic and cartographic material. Governmental bodies produce vast amounts of administrative records.
As an executive body with diverse functions, the Ministry carries out its mission through a number of subordinate offices and institutions. There are state and municipal archives in the Vologda Oblast.
The main functions of the Ministry and its subordinate institutions in the sphere of records activities include:
- to collect material in or about the Vologda Oblast;
- to preserve the archival heritage of the Vologda Oblast;
- to make the archival heritage accessible to people.

Just before New Year’s and Christmas holidays Russian Ded Moroz has set off on a traditional pre-New Year trip across Russian regions.
The year 1990 saw the opening of the Kuskov Memorial Flat in Tot’ma, a small town even by the Vologda Region’s standards. The town once prided itself on its salt making and the seafaring merchants who traded in Siberia and America. It was a native of Totma, Ivan Kuskov, who founded Fort Ross in California.
V International competition for performers on wind and percussion "Northern Rhapsody" will kick off in Cherepovets City on December 1.
“Rendezvous with Russia”, a seven-day international film festival, will open on December 14 in the Vologda Region, featuring Russian and foreign films, documentaries and animated movies. The festival hopes to boost tourism in the region, hosting round table discussions to debate the future of the local tourist industry.
The project was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Russian Cultural Foundation and the national project "Culture". The Korbakov Art school in Vologda organised the contest.
The competition for performers on wind and percussion "Northern Rhapsody" will gather young musicians under 35 years of age. They will demonstrate their skills playing the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, tenor trombone, tuba and percussion instruments.
The contest of tourist video presentation “Miracle of Russia “ was held in Sevastopol.
The Vologda Region will celebrate an All-Russian cultural and educational event ′′ Night of Arts” on November 4th.
The exhibition showcasing gorgeous and rare hand-made designs of the 19-20th centuries is timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the museum. It will open on October 30th.
