Overview
Main functions of the ministry:
- regulation of relations in the sphere of culture (art, cinema, protection and usage of historical and cultural heritage);
- support of museums, culture, art and national artistic trades institutions;
- preservation, revival and development of traditional crafts of the Vologda Region;
- management of service of libraries.
One of the primary functions of the Ministry of Culture is the preservation of the archives of Government Ministries and Departments and related administrative units, and this involves the selection of those records having permanent value, the arrangement and description of archives, and the provision of a reference service to scholars, to Government Ministries and Departments and to the general public. As the government's recordkeeping authority, the Ministry works to ensure effective information management and acts as the official guardian of Vologda Oblast's public archives.
The holdings of the archives and records service comprise records in a variety of media. This includes paper-based textual records, electronic records as well as audio-visual, photographic and cartographic material. Governmental bodies produce vast amounts of administrative records.
As an executive body with diverse functions, the Ministry carries out its mission through a number of subordinate offices and institutions. There are state and municipal archives in the Vologda Oblast.

- to collect material in or about the Vologda Oblast;
- to preserve the archival heritage of the Vologda Oblast;
- to make the archival heritage accessible to people.

The Regional Scientific Library inaugurated the All-Russian Belov Readings "Belov. Vologda. Russia" on October 21. The forum, which brings together a wide range of admirers of the writer's work, all those interested in the preservation, study and promotion of the literary heritage of Vasily Belov, is taking place for the seventh time in Vologda. The epidemiological situation has put most of the events online this year, and one of the few offline events of Belov Readings was the opening of the forum, where the wife and daughter of the writer were the guests of honour.
More than one hundred lithographs by the world-famous artist Salvador Dali have arrived for exhibition in Vologda. An exposition of works by one of the brightest representatives of surrealism began at the Shalamov House of the Vologda Regional Picture Gallery.
The premiere of the play based on Wilhelm Hauff's fairy tale The False Prince is being prepared at the Teremok Vologda Puppet Theater.
The 21st Russian-Finnish Cultural Forum opened online on October 1. Representatives of government bodies, creative groups, public and research organisations from all over Russia and Finland joined the virtual Russian-Finnish Cultural Forum. The participants discussed issues related to cooperation between Russia and Finland in such spheres as theatre, music, folklore and museums.
The International Exhibition of Jewelry and Watch Brands JUNWEX Moscow was held with the support of the Russian Jewelry Trade Club, RosYuvelirExpert RIA and Yuvelirnaya Rossiya (Jewelry Russia) Publishing House. The Junwex took place on 5 days from Wednesday, 23. September to Sunday, 27. September 2020.
The contest of tourist video presentation “Miracle of Russia - Golden Brand “ was held in Yaroslavl. The Grand Prix of the festival-competition and the main “Golden Brand” were awarded to the Kamchatka Tourist Information Centre for the project “Kamchatka - Your Incredible Adventure”. The Kirillo-Belozersky Museum –Preserve took the third place.
Gates to the North is an inter-regional event, show and exhibition for the tourism industry. It is held annually with an active backing of the RF Ministry of Culture, RF Tourism Agency, Association of Russian tour operators and Vologda Oblast Government.
The 26th international trade fair for travel & tourism OTDYKH LEISURE 2020 is held on September 8th–10th, Moscow.
