Today, Russia is marking the Heroes of the Fatherland Day.
Russia marks the Heroes of the Fatherland Day since 2007. The date, December 9, commemorates the Russian historical tradition of honouring the holders of the Order of Saint George, which was established on this day in 1769. The St George ribbon has become the symbol of military valour and the symbol of victory.

The programme of the visit is rather intense. It includes a visit to a forestry enterprise, opening of a new fuel sawdust briquette producing facility, visit to a high school and a local library and, of course, a meeting with the district’s population.
Vladimir Putin delivered the Annual Presidential Address to the Federal Assembly on December 3. The Address was traditionally delivered at the Kremlin’s St George Hall before an audience of more than 1,200 people.
Vologda Oblast Governor took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the 20th International exhibition-fair "Russian Wood". Vladimir Bulavin, Plenipotentiary Presidential Representative in the North Western Federal District also arrived in Vologda to take part in the exhibition and to convey his greetings to its organisers and attendees.
To begin with, Mr. Kuvshinnikov briefed on socioeconomic situation in the region in 2015.
The discussion also focused on establishment of a new production facility complex for deep wood processing in a special economic zone of the Vologda Oblast. According to Mr. Kuvshinnikov, this will be a closed-cycle facility to produce bleached pulp (1,2 mln tonnes a year) both for domestic use and export. The Governor said some 5 million cubic metres of woodland has been reserved for the project, expressing confidence that after the construction of the facility the full wood processing cycle will be located in the region.
Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov, PhosAgro CEO Andrey Guryev and RUSAL CEO Vladislav Soloviev took part in the opening ceremony of an aluminium fluoride production plant in Cherepovets at PhosAgro-Cherepovets.
