On the eve of the National Unity Day, the head of the region presented Vologda’s residents with letters of gratitude

On November 4 Russia marks National Unity Day, one of the recently established public holidays.

Coast Miwok native Californians have arrived in Tot’ma, a hometown of Ivan Kuskov, the founder of Fort Ross.

A group of Native Americans led by Robin Joy, a curator of the Fort Ross National Park came to Tot’ma to make a tour of the city where Ivan Kuskov was born, to see the sights of it, to get acquainted with the Russian traditions, and to learn to make Russian souvenirs. In a local museum the American guests painted souvenir distaffs. They were treated to cloudberry jam and pies cooked according to old recipes.

One of the most valuable collections from Vologda’s museums - icons of St. Nicholas are on display in the Liechtenstein National Museum, Vaduz.

The exhibition under the heading “Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker - mystery, figment and truth” opened in the Liechtenstein National Museum in Vaduz. The Liechtenstein National Museum is showing a temporary exhibition of icons of St. Nicholas, items from the collections of the Vologda State Museum-Preserve, the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery, Veliky Ustyug Museum, the Museum of Dionisy's frescoes in Ferapontovo and Tot’ma museum association.

Vologda Oblast is to foster its cooperation with Fort Ross National Park.

Representatives of the Fort Ross National Park (California, USA) arrived in the Vologda Region to visit Tot’ma, a hometown of Ivan Kuskov, the founder of Fort Ross, to see its sights and to take part in a round-table discussion “Heritage of Fort Ross: Dialogue of Cultures”.

Vologda’s experts to take part in PAP-FOR, International Exhibition and Conference of the Russian paper industry.

The PAP-FOR will take place on October 28 to October 31, 2014 in Saint Petersburg.

Representatives of Vologda branch of the Russian Geographical Society and the Fort Ross National Park (California, USA) are to meet in Vologda on October 28.

The participants of the meeting - politicians, scholars, museum workers, artists, Native Americans, including the Kashaya Pomo, professors and students will exchange views on preserving the heritage of Russian America, strengthening friendship between the peoples of the two states.

Vologda’s Governor is taking part in 2014 International Healthy Cities Conference, 22–25 October 2014, Athens, Greece.

The Conference marks 25 years of the European and global Healthy Cities movement. The movement represents one of the most enduring and thriving international public health initiatives.
