Overview
Main functions of the ministry:
- regulation of relations in the sphere of culture (art, cinema, protection and usage of historical and cultural heritage);
- support of museums, culture, art and national artistic trades institutions;
- preservation, revival and development of traditional crafts of the Vologda Region;
- management of service of libraries.
One of the primary functions of the Ministry of Culture is the preservation of the archives of Government Ministries and Departments and related administrative units, and this involves the selection of those records having permanent value, the arrangement and description of archives, and the provision of a reference service to scholars, to Government Ministries and Departments and to the general public. As the government's recordkeeping authority, the Ministry works to ensure effective information management and acts as the official guardian of Vologda Oblast's public archives.
The holdings of the archives and records service comprise records in a variety of media. This includes paper-based textual records, electronic records as well as audio-visual, photographic and cartographic material. Governmental bodies produce vast amounts of administrative records.
As an executive body with diverse functions, the Ministry carries out its mission through a number of subordinate offices and institutions. There are state and municipal archives in the Vologda Oblast.
The main functions of the Ministry and its subordinate institutions in the sphere of records activities include:
- to collect material in or about the Vologda Oblast;
- to preserve the archival heritage of the Vologda Oblast;
- to make the archival heritage accessible to people.

Russian Traveler Awards 2023 is an online voting from Russian Traveler magazine dedicated to the main tourist opportunities of Russia - cultural, historical and natural objects, folk crafts and national dishes, festivals, sights and eco-routes.
The Pushkinskaya Karta project (Pushkin cards) which provides Russian young people with free access to the treasures of Russian culture started working on September 1, 2021.
During the Knowledge Day celebrated on September 1st, the entrance to the Vologda State Museum - Preserve and its branches will be free of charge for all categories of schoolchildren and students of the Vologda Region.
The organizers of the Cinema Night campaign are the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Cinema Fund and the portal of the cultural heritage and traditions of Russia “Culture.RF”.
The Russia International Exhibition and Forum will open in Moscow on November 4, 2023. The regions of the Russian Federation, federal executive bodies, nonprofit organisations, state corporations, and foreign representatives will take part in it.
The exhibition is organized by the International Federation of Ex-Libris Societies, an international non-governmental organization that aims to organize cultural exchange and communication between graphic artists from different countries. Its main objective is to cultivate and promote an interest in and devotion to bookplates and enhance their artistic qualities.
The day of State flag of the Russian Federation, one of the statutory holidays of Russia, was established in 1994 by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation and is celebrated on August, 22.
Every 3rd Wednesday of the month, exhibition halls and galleries are free of charge in the Vologda Region.
“Summer in the Kremlin” covers different genres and styles of music Concerts and performances during the festival take place in the open air in the unique historical-architectural environment of the Vologda Kremlin.
This year "Zheleznoye Pole" (Iron Field) was dedicated to the Year of the teacher and mentor. It was aimed at developing the brand "Ustyuzhna - the city of blacksmiths", popularization of blacksmithing craft in the Vologda Region, exchange of experience and creative communication of craftsmen.
