Overview
Main functions of the ministry:
- regulation of relations in the sphere of culture (art, cinema, protection and usage of historical and cultural heritage);
- support of museums, culture, art and national artistic trades institutions;
- preservation, revival and development of traditional crafts of the Vologda Region;
- management of service of libraries.
One of the primary functions of the Ministry of Culture is the preservation of the archives of Government Ministries and Departments and related administrative units, and this involves the selection of those records having permanent value, the arrangement and description of archives, and the provision of a reference service to scholars, to Government Ministries and Departments and to the general public. As the government's recordkeeping authority, the Ministry works to ensure effective information management and acts as the official guardian of Vologda Oblast's public archives.
The holdings of the archives and records service comprise records in a variety of media. This includes paper-based textual records, electronic records as well as audio-visual, photographic and cartographic material. Governmental bodies produce vast amounts of administrative records.
As an executive body with diverse functions, the Ministry carries out its mission through a number of subordinate offices and institutions. There are state and municipal archives in the Vologda Oblast.
The main functions of the Ministry and its subordinate institutions in the sphere of records activities include:
- to collect material in or about the Vologda Oblast;
- to preserve the archival heritage of the Vologda Oblast;
- to make the archival heritage accessible to people.

32 folk groups and 20 craftsmen participated in Russian Folklore Festival on August 4-6. Craftsmen represented traditions and skills of wood carving, weaving, folk dolls, wood painting, patchwork, lace making and pottery. Folklore groups arrived in Verkhovazhye to share the cultural values and heritage of their ancestors through music and dance.
Russian Hunting festival will take place in Vologda Region on August 12.
Russian Traveler Awards 2023 is an online voting from Russian Traveler magazine dedicated to the main tourist opportunities of Russia - cultural, historical and natural objects, folk crafts and national dishes, festivals, sights and eco-routes.
VIII All-Russian Folklore Festival "Village - the Soul of Russia" will unite the best amateur collectives and experts in the field of traditional folk culture in the Vologda Region. The events will be held in Verkhovazhsky district from 4 to 6 August.
The Blacksmith Festival takes place annually in August. It is timed to coincide with the day of city foundation. This year it will be held for the 15th time, on August 4-5.
Over 300 participants are to arrive at Russian Folklore Festival "The Village - the Soul of Russia".
“Summer in the Kremlin” covers different genres and styles of music Concerts and performances during the festival take place in the open air in the unique historical-architectural environment of the Vologda Kremlin. The founder of the festival is the Department of Culture of the Vologda Region.
The Pushkinskaya Karta project (Pushkin cards) which provides Russian young people with free access to the treasures of Russian culture started working on September 1, 2021.

Veliky Ustyug, located in the north - east of the Vologda Region, Russia’s North-West, turns 876 years old. Celebrations on this occasion will be held on July 21 and 22.
