Overview
Main functions of the ministry:
- regulation of relations in the sphere of culture (art, cinema, protection and usage of historical and cultural heritage);
- support of museums, culture, art and national artistic trades institutions;
- preservation, revival and development of traditional crafts of the Vologda Region;
- management of service of libraries.
One of the primary functions of the Ministry of Culture is the preservation of the archives of Government Ministries and Departments and related administrative units, and this involves the selection of those records having permanent value, the arrangement and description of archives, and the provision of a reference service to scholars, to Government Ministries and Departments and to the general public. As the government's recordkeeping authority, the Ministry works to ensure effective information management and acts as the official guardian of Vologda Oblast's public archives.
The holdings of the archives and records service comprise records in a variety of media. This includes paper-based textual records, electronic records as well as audio-visual, photographic and cartographic material. Governmental bodies produce vast amounts of administrative records.
As an executive body with diverse functions, the Ministry carries out its mission through a number of subordinate offices and institutions. There are state and municipal archives in the Vologda Oblast.
The main functions of the Ministry and its subordinate institutions in the sphere of records activities include:
- to collect material in or about the Vologda Oblast;
- to preserve the archival heritage of the Vologda Oblast;
- to make the archival heritage accessible to people.

Russian Ded Moroz lit up the first New Year’s tree in Veliky Ustyug on his birthday, on November 18th, and set off for his pre-New Year journey. By tradition, a lot of guests came to Veliky Ustiug for Ded Moroz’s birthday. His friends and colleagues from other Russian cities and the near abroad gathered there.
Kalil Amar Wilson is an American vocalist, pianist, songwriter, and ethnomusicologist. Wilson began singing as a child with the Oakland Youth Chorus, studied at the UC Berkeley Young Musicians Program, and graduated magna cum laude from the UCLA Music and Ethnomusicology Departments.
The Museums of the Russian North is a major culture grant programme of Severstal, focused on supporting the development of arts museums in the north of Russia.
The Federal Agency for Tourism of the Russian Federation named the best regions of Russia among the participants of the federal target program "Development of Domestic and Inbound Tourism in Russia" in 2018. Deputy Governor of the Vologda Region Oleg Vasiliev took part in the meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Olga Golodets.
The Vologda Chamber Drama Theater took part in the 10th international festival/laboratory of chamber theatres and small scale productions MOLDFEST.RAMPA.RU that was held in Chișinău on December 3-9.
“Rendezvous with Russia”, an international film festival, will open on December 6 in the Vologda Region, featuring around 50 Russian and foreign documentaries. The festival hopes to boost tourism in the region, hosting round table discussions and to debate the future of the local tourist industry.

The first national voting “My Favourite Museum” was launched on “Culture.RF” portal on November 4, 2018 when the “Art Night” started. The voting went until November 26, 2018.

Russian President Vladimir Putin officially designated 2019 as the Year of Theatre in Russia. The President resolved to hold the Year of Theatre in the Russian Federation in 2019 in order to further develop the art of theatre. Over 100 events are to be held in the Vologda Region within the framework of the Year of Theatre.
