Ministry of Agriculture and Food Stocks
Overview
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Stocks of the Vologda Oblast is the principal agency responsible for promotion of agricultural and fisheries development and growth. In pursuit of this, it provides the policy framework, helps direct public investments, and in partnership with local government units provides the support services necessary to make agriculture and agri-based enterprises profitable.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Stocks enforces standards for wholesomeness and quality of meat, poultry and eggs produced in the Vologda Oblast. Its food safety activities include inspecting poultry, eggs, and domestic and imported meat; inspecting livestock and production plants; and making quality inspections for grain, fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry and dairy products.
Main functions of the Ministry:
- policy with regard to agriculture and the food industry and the development of the fishing industry;
- implementing the national project to support agriculture;
- agriculture management;
- agricultural production management;
- food industry management;
- management of livestock breeding, seed-farming, land development, veterinary science;
- conservation of aquatic biological resources;
- aquaculture, protection and use of regional natural biological (zoological) preserves;
- ensuring biological safety on the territory of the Vologda Region;
- implementation of measures to develop trading activities and ensure consumer rights;
- control and supervision in the field of veterinary science;
- protecting animal health and animal welfare;
- protection from invasive non-native plants, animals, insects, and diseases;
- monitoring and management of existing agricultural pests and diseases;
- resolution and management of trade issues related to animal health;
- prevention, detection, control, and eradication of diseases and pests of animals;
- investigation, demonstrations and control of “injurious animal species”;
- suppression of disease in livestock and prevention of epidemics;
- control for observance of normative and legal documents.

Under the contracts signed, the “Vologda Ice-Cream”, Vologda-based ice-cream manufacturer, exports its ice-cream notable for natural taste free from vegetable fats and diversity of flavors to Uzbekistan.
From January to February 26, 2023 the export of agricultural products from the Vologda Region to foreign countries amounted to 6,313.1 thousand US dollars, which is 27.9% more than in the same period of 2022.
Prodexpo, an international exhibition for Food, Beverages, Food Raw Materials is the largest specialized exhibition in Russia and Eastern Europe. Prodexpo features foodstuffs from across the world, from essential food and beverages to exquisite speciality as well as organic, sport and healthy food, and exotic products.
In 2022 the Vologda Region produced 11,000 tons of butter. This is a record for the last 30 years. This figure represents a 20.4% increase compared to 2021.
In 2022 the highest amount of milk production was recorded in the Vologda Region. It produced 605,000 tons of milk. This is the maximum result for the last 29 years, the press service of the Vologda Oblast Government reports.

The meeting organized by the Russian Ministry of Agriculture was led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Sergey Levin. Deputy Governor of Vologda Region Mikhail Glazkov took part in the meeting held via videoconference.
In 2002 Rospatent, the Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property registered a trademark "Vologda Made Product". This trademark of staple products produced on the territory of Vologda region can be considered an established regional brand.
For 10 months of 2022, almost 9.500 tons were produced, which is 1.700 tons (or 22 percent) more than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The trade fair’s visitors include local government officials, major manufacturers, dealers and distributors looking to explore partnerships and growth opportunities within the food market in the Vologda Region.
