Ministry of Agriculture and Food Stocks
Overview
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Stocks of the Vologda Oblast is the principal agency responsible for promotion of agricultural and fisheries development and growth. In pursuit of this, it provides the policy framework, helps direct public investments, and in partnership with local government units provides the support services necessary to make agriculture and agri-based enterprises profitable.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Stocks enforces standards for wholesomeness and quality of meat, poultry and eggs produced in the Vologda Oblast. Its food safety activities include inspecting poultry, eggs, and domestic and imported meat; inspecting livestock and production plants; and making quality inspections for grain, fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry and dairy products.
Main functions of the Ministry:
- policy with regard to agriculture and the food industry and the development of the fishing industry;
- implementing the national project to support agriculture;
- agriculture management;
- agricultural production management;
- food industry management;
- management of livestock breeding, seed-farming, land development, veterinary science;
- conservation of aquatic biological resources;
- aquaculture, protection and use of regional natural biological (zoological) preserves;
- ensuring biological safety on the territory of the Vologda Region;
- implementation of measures to develop trading activities and ensure consumer rights;
- control and supervision in the field of veterinary science;
- protecting animal health and animal welfare;
- protection from invasive non-native plants, animals, insects, and diseases;
- monitoring and management of existing agricultural pests and diseases;
- resolution and management of trade issues related to animal health;
- prevention, detection, control, and eradication of diseases and pests of animals;
- investigation, demonstrations and control of “injurious animal species”;
- suppression of disease in livestock and prevention of epidemics;
- control for observance of normative and legal documents.

Vologda’s producers of alcoholic beverages opened new export routes. They started exporting their goods to China and South Korea, reports the Vologda Region Department of Agriculture and Food Stocks.
XXV Russian agricultural exhibition “Golden Autumn-2023” was held from 4 to 7 of October. It is the country’s largest showcase of agricultural achievements.
According to preliminary data, for eight months of 2023, the volume of exports of agricultural products has amounted to USD 38,5 million.

Since the beginning of 2023, about 300 tons of chocolate products have been exported to nine foreign countries.
For 7 months of 2023, Vologda’s enterprises exported 2.6 ths tons of products to Uzbekistan, that is 23.2% more than during the same period in 2022.
Confectionery products manufactured by Vologda’s enterprises are in high demand not only in Russia, but also abroad.
For seven months of 2023, export of agricultural products from the Vologda Region has increased by 54.1% compared to the same period last year.
In the first half of 2023 fish farms of the region (20 organizations) produced 688 tons of fish, by 21% more compared to the last year figure during the same period.
The work is carried out within the framework of the regional project "Export of agricultural products" of the national project "International Cooperation and Export".
