The famous house-museum of A.F. Mozhaisky is a two-story wooden house, barely visible in the thick of trees. The history of this house is closely connected with the name of Mozhaisky Alexander Fedorovich - a famous design engineer who worked and lived here from 1861 to 1868. The estate went to Alexander Fedorovich as a dowry after his wife Lyubov Dmitrieva - the daughter of the local court adviser Kuzmin D.I. Mozhaisky's wife was considered a very educated and interesting woman, whom many noble men wooed, but she preferred to choose Alexander Fedorovich.

The lacemaking in the Vologda Region began to develop dynamically in the XIX century. Primarily it was the craft of the women from not very rich families in Vologda. Women weaved lace and put it up for sale. The lacemaking wasn’t the primary source of income, but it allowed urban low-income families to earn some money. The Church of St. Alexander Nevsky is located on the right bank of the Vologda River, not far from the Cathedral of the Resurrection Cathedral, southeast of the Bishops' House. Previously, the church was named in honor of Nicholas the Wonderworker, but in 1869 it was renamed the Church of the Holy Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky. The place for the construction of the temple was very well chosen - the temple perfectly complements the cathedral panorama from the side of the Vologda River. The territorial zone in which the church is located, in earlier times was called the "Known Mountain" and was a lime mound.

The famous museum "The World of Forgotten Things" is located in a three-story wooden house from the middle of the 19th century, which was previously home to a wealthy merchant Dmitry Panteleev. The museum is a federal cultural and historical monument. In 2011, the World of Forgotten Things celebrated its 20th anniversary. Every corner of the museum house has its own secret, every thing has traces of the past era. The exposition of the lower floor presents several rooms with a typological interior of a dining room, living room, study and “Sonechka's room” - a nursery.

Slather on the history at an exhibition dedicated to this Russian luxury.

In a historic village museum about 300 miles from Moscow, a late 18th-century building houses a museum dedicated to one spectacularly creamy local dairy product. Vologda butter, a rich and nutty spread, has earned public endorsements, prestigious awards, and now boasts a collection of exhibits, artifacts, and documents that honors its heritage.

All of them lived before 1917, some of them were beatified and some were denied by the Orthodox Church, but all of them prophesied about the future of Russia – and some predictions, of course, came true.

It’s on a misty morning that I continue my exploration 112 miles (180 km) further north from Yaroslav in the districts of Vologda, a city famous for its butter and lace. As the capital of a singularly marshy region, due to high humidity, but also an exceptional heritage, protected over the centuries from enemy assaults by this natural barrier.
