Russia’s Ded Moroz from Veliky Ustyug arrived in Athens (Greece) as part of his traditional pre New-Year tour of Russia and foreign countries.

In the run-up to the New Year, Ded Moroz, Russia’s equivalent of Santa Claus travelled across Russian cities and also visited Finland, Latvia, Slovakia and Greece.

A monument to Ivan Konev, one of the most outstanding Soviet generals of World War II will be preserved in Prague.

The monument to World-War II era Soviet Marshal Ivan Konev, who contributed significantly to the Czech capital's liberation from Nazi troops in May 1945 was erected in Prague in 1980.

A project called “Vologda-New Year Capital of Russia’s North” was launched in Vologda on December 26.

A project called New Year Capital was launched in Russia three years ago. It was initiated by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation in 2013. Kazan was chosen as the first such capital. Every year a board of experts will select such capital, where the New Year will be celebrated in a special way, because every Russian city has its own traditions of celebrating. The All-Russian project “New Year Capital of Russia” is designed to stimulate the development of domestic tourism.

Russia's Ded Moroz who lives in the forest 11 km off Veliky Ustyug, Vologda Oblast, continues his traditional pre New-Year tour of Russia and foreign countries.
