The first meeting of the Vologda Historical Society devoted to the 245th anniversary of foundation of permanent Russian settlements on the North American continent is to be held on January 19th in the Vologda Scientific Library. In 2017 the honour to become New Year’s Capital of Russia’s North fell upon Vologda again. Russian Ded Moroz lit up the first New Year’s tree in Veliky Ustyug on his birthday, on November 18th, and set off for his pre-New Year journey. By tradition, a lot of guests came to Veliky Ustiug for Ded Moroz’s birthday. His friends and colleagues from other Russian cities and the near abroad gathered there.
