Overview
Main functions of the ministry:
- regulation of relations in the sphere of culture (art, cinema, protection and usage of historical and cultural heritage);
- support of museums, culture, art and national artistic trades institutions;
- preservation, revival and development of traditional crafts of the Vologda Region;
- management of service of libraries.
One of the primary functions of the Ministry of Culture is the preservation of the archives of Government Ministries and Departments and related administrative units, and this involves the selection of those records having permanent value, the arrangement and description of archives, and the provision of a reference service to scholars, to Government Ministries and Departments and to the general public. As the government's recordkeeping authority, the Ministry works to ensure effective information management and acts as the official guardian of Vologda Oblast's public archives.
The holdings of the archives and records service comprise records in a variety of media. This includes paper-based textual records, electronic records as well as audio-visual, photographic and cartographic material. Governmental bodies produce vast amounts of administrative records.
As an executive body with diverse functions, the Ministry carries out its mission through a number of subordinate offices and institutions. There are state and municipal archives in the Vologda Oblast.
The main functions of the Ministry and its subordinate institutions in the sphere of records activities include:
- to collect material in or about the Vologda Oblast;
- to preserve the archival heritage of the Vologda Oblast;
- to make the archival heritage accessible to people.

The international competition is organized with an active backing of the Vologda Region Government. The main objective of the event is to reveal new talents and to perpetuate the memory of Valery Gavrilin, a distinguished Russian composer who was born in the northern Russian city of Vologda.
The VOICES (Vologda Independent Cinema from European Screens) Festival will hold its 11th edition in 2024.
The International Forum "Wood in Architecture" will be held in Vologda for the first time on July 18-20, 2024. Applications for the forum are accepted till May 13.
The festival is aimed at popularization of folk arts and handicrafts. It will be arranged with an active backing of the Vologda City Administration and a Handicrafts Centre “Reznoi Palisad (Carved Fence)”.
Defender of the Fatherland Day is celebrated in Russia on February 23. This is a nation-wide holiday that personifies the recognition of the great services of the Russian forces to the country and people.
A solemn ceremony of awarding the winners and prize-winners of V International Marketing Competition in the field of tourism "PRObrand - 2023" was held in Moscow on February 15.
On February 21st, many of the region's museums and galleries offer free entry in order to have a more diverse range of visitors.
Russian North State Folk Music, Song and Dance Ensemble has brought Russian music and dance to Moscow within the framework of Culture Day at the International RUSSIA EXPO.
On February 17th, Vologda will present the tenth edition of the City of Crafts International Festival of Folk Crafts at RUSSIA EXPO, a platform for the presentation of the region’s achievements in industry, economy, agriculture, tourism and culture.
