Overview
Main functions of the ministry:
- regulation of relations in the sphere of culture (art, cinema, protection and usage of historical and cultural heritage);
- support of museums, culture, art and national artistic trades institutions;
- preservation, revival and development of traditional crafts of the Vologda Region;
- management of service of libraries.
One of the primary functions of the Ministry of Culture is the preservation of the archives of Government Ministries and Departments and related administrative units, and this involves the selection of those records having permanent value, the arrangement and description of archives, and the provision of a reference service to scholars, to Government Ministries and Departments and to the general public. As the government's recordkeeping authority, the Ministry works to ensure effective information management and acts as the official guardian of Vologda Oblast's public archives.
The holdings of the archives and records service comprise records in a variety of media. This includes paper-based textual records, electronic records as well as audio-visual, photographic and cartographic material. Governmental bodies produce vast amounts of administrative records.
As an executive body with diverse functions, the Ministry carries out its mission through a number of subordinate offices and institutions. There are state and municipal archives in the Vologda Oblast.
The main functions of the Ministry and its subordinate institutions in the sphere of records activities include:
- to collect material in or about the Vologda Oblast;
- to preserve the archival heritage of the Vologda Oblast;
- to make the archival heritage accessible to people.

The Blacksmith Festival takes place annually in August. This year it will be held on August 4-5. The festival is a meeting place for professionals as well as the general public where people of all ages and all walks of life have a good time.
On May 20th Vologda is to join International Restaurant Daу, a food carnival where anyone can open a restaurant.
Over 400 participants from Russian regions and foreign countries (Australia, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Estonia) were registered in the Vologda State Museum-Preserve. III International Lace Festival VITA LACE will be held in Vologda on June 22-25, 2017.
On the night of May 20 to 21, museums across Europe will take part in the Long Night of Museums. On this night, local cultural institution will stay open extra-late to celebrate culture, science, and education.
This summer Vologda will host several inter-regional and international events - Drama Festival Summer in the Kremlin, III International Lace Festival VITA LACE, IV International Folk Crafts Festival “Voice of Crafts” and VIII American Music Festival.
Коляда-Plays, an International Theatre Festival of Contemporary Drama will take place on June, 20 - 29, 2017 in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
The list of ten most popular lakes for summer 2017, issued by analytical agency “TourStat,” is topped by Russia’s town and cities located on the bank of such lakes as Lake Baikal, Lake Ladoga, Lake Onega, Lake Chany, Lake Seliger, Lake Bolshoye Yarovoye, Lake Aslykul, Lake Beloye, Lake Ilmen and Lake Peipus.
The concerts and performances during the festival take place in the open air in the unique historical-architectural environment of the Vologda Kremlin. The founder of the festival is the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Vologda Oblast.
The exhibition of Vologda’s lace kicked off on April 28th in the Swiss Gallery “Beyeler Collection Foundation” that became home to masterpieces by Vologda’s craftsmen for the first time.
