Overview
Main functions of the ministry:
- regulation of relations in the sphere of culture (art, cinema, protection and usage of historical and cultural heritage);
- support of museums, culture, art and national artistic trades institutions;
- preservation, revival and development of traditional crafts of the Vologda Region;
- management of service of libraries.
One of the primary functions of the Ministry of Culture is the preservation of the archives of Government Ministries and Departments and related administrative units, and this involves the selection of those records having permanent value, the arrangement and description of archives, and the provision of a reference service to scholars, to Government Ministries and Departments and to the general public. As the government's recordkeeping authority, the Ministry works to ensure effective information management and acts as the official guardian of Vologda Oblast's public archives.
The holdings of the archives and records service comprise records in a variety of media. This includes paper-based textual records, electronic records as well as audio-visual, photographic and cartographic material. Governmental bodies produce vast amounts of administrative records.
As an executive body with diverse functions, the Ministry carries out its mission through a number of subordinate offices and institutions. There are state and municipal archives in the Vologda Oblast.
The main functions of the Ministry and its subordinate institutions in the sphere of records activities include:
- to collect material in or about the Vologda Oblast;
- to preserve the archival heritage of the Vologda Oblast;
- to make the archival heritage accessible to people.

National calendar of Events EventsInRussia.com completed the competitive selection within the framework of the All-Russian competition "The best event of the year". In total, more than 1,000 projects from 70 Russian regions were submitted.
The Vologda State Museum-Preserve of History, Architecture and Decorative Arts is situated in the historical centre of the city - the Vologda Kremlin that consists of buildings constructed during four centuries (XVI- XIX). It is one of the largest museums of Russia's North.
The conference “Russia’s North” held on March 2-5 in Tot’ma will gather over 70 experts from Russia. The event will touch upon problems of study and preservation of historical and cultural heritage.
Maslenitsa festival (Pancake week) that is held in Vologda Region till February, 26th is a great opportunity to learn the ancient Slavic traditions and to have a lot of fun participating in action games.
The competition aims to identify the most talented and artistic young musicians and to open opportunities for further professional career. In addition, it will contribute to the strengthening and expansion of international contacts.
The Pushkinskaya Karta project (Pushkin cards) which provides Russian young people with free access to the treasures of Russian culture started working two years ago.
The Interregional Folklore Festival "The Village - the Soul of Russia" received the status of Russian festival in 2020.
Every 3rd Wednesday of the month, museums, exhibition halls and galleries are free of charge in the Vologda Region.
VII International competition for performers on wind and percussion instruments "Northern Rhapsody" will be held in Cherepovets City on April 23-26.
The competition for performers on wind and percussion instruments "Northern Rhapsody" will gather young musicians under 35 years of age. They will demonstrate their skills playing the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, tenor trombone, tuba and percussion instruments.
