Overview
Main functions of the ministry:
- regulation of relations in the sphere of culture (art, cinema, protection and usage of historical and cultural heritage);
- support of museums, culture, art and national artistic trades institutions;
- preservation, revival and development of traditional crafts of the Vologda Region;
- management of service of libraries.
One of the primary functions of the Ministry of Culture is the preservation of the archives of Government Ministries and Departments and related administrative units, and this involves the selection of those records having permanent value, the arrangement and description of archives, and the provision of a reference service to scholars, to Government Ministries and Departments and to the general public. As the government's recordkeeping authority, the Ministry works to ensure effective information management and acts as the official guardian of Vologda Oblast's public archives.
The holdings of the archives and records service comprise records in a variety of media. This includes paper-based textual records, electronic records as well as audio-visual, photographic and cartographic material. Governmental bodies produce vast amounts of administrative records.
As an executive body with diverse functions, the Ministry carries out its mission through a number of subordinate offices and institutions. There are state and municipal archives in the Vologda Oblast.
The main functions of the Ministry and its subordinate institutions in the sphere of records activities include:
- to collect material in or about the Vologda Oblast;
- to preserve the archival heritage of the Vologda Oblast;
- to make the archival heritage accessible to people.

The Vologda Region is a land of an original art noted for unique and various historical and cultural heritage. The Vologda Oblast developed historically over hundreds of years. Its history has roots in the hoary past. The region made a tangible contribution to the national as well as the world culture. It is famous for the number and significance of its monuments of architecture and archaeology, museums and libraries, all the diversity of handicraft products. Belozersk, Veliky Ustyug, Vologda, Ustyuzhna, Tot'ma and other cities are in fact unique open-air museums.
According to the Federal Tourism Agency, on January 18 the next stage of the tourist cashback started in Russia. Tourists can buy package tours and accommodation with the opportunity to go on a tour to any Russian region from January 18 to April 30, and on cruises - from the beginning of navigation until June 1.
From December 31, 2021 to January 9, 2022 New Year and Christmas celebrations took place in the cities and towns of the Vologda Region.
The train of Russia's kind New Year magician that set off on December 5, has already covered thousands of kilometers. Ded Moroz has met with residents of numerous cities.
The International competition for performers on wind and percussion instruments "Northern Rhapsody" opened in Cherepovets on November 25 and lasted until December 15.
Ladya is an exhibition for the Russian craftwork. Artists of the whole country take part there presenting the visitor many unique and world-famous artworks.
The All-Russian competition of jewelers "The Best jewelry of Russia” was held within the framework of an Exhibition of Jewelry and Watch Brands JUNWEX Moscow. The jewelry exhibition in Moscow displayed the works of the best jewelry masters from Russia. All jewellery product range was presented at the show.
An exhibition "Masterpieces of Gustave Doré", a French engraver opened in the Shalamov Memorial House, Vologda.
The Pushkinskaya Karta project (Pushkin cards) which provides Russian young people with free access to the treasures of Russian culture once every 4 months started working on September 1.
This year, the Ded Moroz Train is to set off for a New Year journey on December 5 and travel to the Black Sea coast. The train will stop at Vologda, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Nizhny Novgorod, Kirov, Perm, Yekaterinburg, Izhevsk, Kazan, Samara, Saratov, Astrakhan, Makhachkala, Gudermes, Nazran, Vladikavkaz, Nalchik, Mineralnye Vody, Stavropol, Sochi, Rostov-on-Don, Voronezh, Tula, Moscow, Pskov, Veliky Novgorod, St. Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Arkhangelsk and other cities.
