Overview
Main functions of the ministry:
- regulation of relations in the sphere of culture (art, cinema, protection and usage of historical and cultural heritage);
- support of museums, culture, art and national artistic trades institutions;
- preservation, revival and development of traditional crafts of the Vologda Region;
- management of service of libraries.
One of the primary functions of the Ministry of Culture is the preservation of the archives of Government Ministries and Departments and related administrative units, and this involves the selection of those records having permanent value, the arrangement and description of archives, and the provision of a reference service to scholars, to Government Ministries and Departments and to the general public. As the government's recordkeeping authority, the Ministry works to ensure effective information management and acts as the official guardian of Vologda Oblast's public archives.
The holdings of the archives and records service comprise records in a variety of media. This includes paper-based textual records, electronic records as well as audio-visual, photographic and cartographic material. Governmental bodies produce vast amounts of administrative records.
As an executive body with diverse functions, the Ministry carries out its mission through a number of subordinate offices and institutions. There are state and municipal archives in the Vologda Oblast.
The main functions of the Ministry and its subordinate institutions in the sphere of records activities include:
- to collect material in or about the Vologda Oblast;
- to preserve the archival heritage of the Vologda Oblast;
- to make the archival heritage accessible to people.

The “Tastes of Russia” competition opens up prospects for the development of regional brands and rural areas. The competition is aimed at popularizing unique products produced in Russian regions.
Branko Rakovec, Slovenian Ambassador to Russia arrived in Vologda on an official visit on October 18th. The main objective of the visit is to define guidelines for trade, economic and cultural partnership ties between Slovenia and the Vologda Region.
Organizers of “Rendezvous with Russia”, an international film festival invite Vologda’s residents to participate in the competition.
Applications for participation in an international competition can be sent by November 1. The music competition will be held online via video recordings.
The puppeteers of the Vologda Puppet Theatre "Teremok" went to X International Festival of Puppet Theatres of the Barents Region which takes place in Murmansk from October 13 to 17. Murmansk is set to host puppet shows performed by renowned puppeteers from Russian regions and foreign countries.
"Treasures of Russia" is an online voting dedicated to tourism opportunities in Russia. It is designed to identify the country's main attractions and its most popular places and objects and open new sights on Russia’s tourist map.
An exhibition of delicate Vologda lace is organized within the framework of the Days of Russia in Kazakhstan on October 12-19.
The exhibition of Vologda’s lace kicked off at the Chuvash National Museum on October 11th, 2021 and it will last till January 9, 2022. The exhibition of over 70 Vologda’s laceworks will become a magnet for residents of the Chuvash Republic and guests. On display at the Chuvash National Museum there are also photos of Vologda’s magnificent architecture.
VI International competition for performers on wind and percussion "Northern Rhapsody" will be held in Cherepovets on November 25-28. Applications for participation in an international competition can be sent by November 1. The music competition will be held online via video recordings.
“Nature as a source of inspiration” contest is aimed at environmental education of children from 6 to 18 years old and at developing their creative potential. Contest’s participants create works from natural materials.
