Overview
Main functions of the ministry:
- regulation of relations in the sphere of culture (art, cinema, protection and usage of historical and cultural heritage);
- support of museums, culture, art and national artistic trades institutions;
- preservation, revival and development of traditional crafts of the Vologda Region;
- management of service of libraries.
One of the primary functions of the Ministry of Culture is the preservation of the archives of Government Ministries and Departments and related administrative units, and this involves the selection of those records having permanent value, the arrangement and description of archives, and the provision of a reference service to scholars, to Government Ministries and Departments and to the general public. As the government's recordkeeping authority, the Ministry works to ensure effective information management and acts as the official guardian of Vologda Oblast's public archives.
The holdings of the archives and records service comprise records in a variety of media. This includes paper-based textual records, electronic records as well as audio-visual, photographic and cartographic material. Governmental bodies produce vast amounts of administrative records.
As an executive body with diverse functions, the Ministry carries out its mission through a number of subordinate offices and institutions. There are state and municipal archives in the Vologda Oblast.
The main functions of the Ministry and its subordinate institutions in the sphere of records activities include:
- to collect material in or about the Vologda Oblast;
- to preserve the archival heritage of the Vologda Oblast;
- to make the archival heritage accessible to people.

Spectaculo Interesse is one of the biggest international puppet festivals in the Czech Republic and ranks among the most influential festivals of its kind in central Europe.
The UNWTO General Assembly will hold its 23rd session in St. Petersburg on 9–13 September 2019. It is the largest event in the global tourism industry. It brings together delegates from more than 130 countries. The UNWTO General Assembly is held under the auspices of the UN, and aims to solve global problems facing the tourism industry. This marks the first time that Russia will host the event.
The festival is named after Valery Gavrilin, the great Russian composer, People's artist of Russia who was born in Vologda. This year it is devoted to the 80th anniversary of the birth of Valery Gavrilin.
On August 22, 2019 Vologda was awarded the honorary title "City of Labor Valor and Glory" for outstanding services to the Fatherland.
The creative project is aimed at preserving cultural identity, creating conditions for the development of traditional folk culture and promoting the cultural and historical heritage.
The German Lace Guild released a guide book with a history and explanation of how lace was made in several countries including Russia. It gives a history of its rise and development in other countries.
The Cinema Night will be held in Russia for the fourth time. Open cinemas, concert halls, museums, and libraries will prepare lectures, excursions, concerts and screenings of famous films.
Last weekend Totma, a small town in the eastern part of the Vologda Oblast marked its 882-year anniversary and celebrated a traditional Russian America Day.
On August 10-11 the major events of the celebration will be dedicated to the key moments of the Russian-American history of Totma lands. Russian America Day is an incredibly diverse event that reflects the rich history of Fort Ross fortress, once the southernmost outpost of the Russian empire in America. Here one can learn about the rich history of the Alaska Natives at Fort Ross and enjoy the joyful sound of ringing bells.
The Blacksmith Festival takes place annually in August. This year it will be held on August 9-10. It will be devoted to the Year of Theatre in Russia that was proclaimed by RF President. At the festival you can watch blacksmiths busily hammering theatre masks and pegs.
