Overview
Main functions of the ministry:
- regulation of relations in the sphere of culture (art, cinema, protection and usage of historical and cultural heritage);
- support of museums, culture, art and national artistic trades institutions;
- preservation, revival and development of traditional crafts of the Vologda Region;
- management of service of libraries.
One of the primary functions of the Ministry of Culture is the preservation of the archives of Government Ministries and Departments and related administrative units, and this involves the selection of those records having permanent value, the arrangement and description of archives, and the provision of a reference service to scholars, to Government Ministries and Departments and to the general public. As the government's recordkeeping authority, the Ministry works to ensure effective information management and acts as the official guardian of Vologda Oblast's public archives.
The holdings of the archives and records service comprise records in a variety of media. This includes paper-based textual records, electronic records as well as audio-visual, photographic and cartographic material. Governmental bodies produce vast amounts of administrative records.
As an executive body with diverse functions, the Ministry carries out its mission through a number of subordinate offices and institutions. There are state and municipal archives in the Vologda Oblast.
The main functions of the Ministry and its subordinate institutions in the sphere of records activities include:
- to collect material in or about the Vologda Oblast;
- to preserve the archival heritage of the Vologda Oblast;
- to make the archival heritage accessible to people.

Vologda takes a notable place in cinematographic world with its Festival VOICES ( VO logda I ndependent C inema from E uropean S creens). The Festival of Young European Cinema "Voices" will be held in the old Russian city of Vologda between the 5th and 8th of July.
Applications from artisans have been received in the following categories - traditional female crafts, wooden and birch bark craft painting, valenki (kind of felt boots), wood engraving and wicker-work, blacksmithing, potter's craft and forgotten handicrafts.
Intermuseum 2018 International Museum Festival is to take place on May 31- June 3 in Moscow. The structure of the Intermuseum includes expositions from various Russian and international museums, competitions, business and cultural events, including a program for children.
The Internet project is organized to support the national development, the revival of interest in the history of Russian cities, the formation of respect for cultural, historical and architectural heritage of Russia.
On the night of May 19 to 20, the Vologda State Museum-Preserve opened its doors to visitors in the evening and at night. It joined the international campaign Night of Museums for the 11th time.

This summer Vologda will host several inter-regional and international events - XIV International Drama Festival Voices of History, International Folk Crafts Festival “City of Crafts” and VIII VOICES Festival (VOlogda Independent Cinema from European Screens) .
The festival will be held with an active backing of the Union of Theatre Workers of the Russian Federation. The Voices of History is organized jointly with the RF Ministry of Culture, the Vologda Oblast Government and the administration of Vologda City.
Vologda will host the International Folk Crafts Festival “City of Crafts” on June 29-July 1, 2018.
