Vologda Region is stepping up cooperation with Republic of Belarus.

Prospects for further cooperation between the Vologda Region and the Republic of Belarus were discussed at the 26th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Vologda Region Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov met with Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Dmitry Krutoi.
A delegation from the Vologda Region is to visit Belarus on October 26-27.
"Belarus is our strategic partners. The first agreement on the development of trade, economic and cultural cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations of the Republic of Belarus and the Vologda Region Administration was signed in 1998. This year we celebrate 25 years since the establishment of partnership ties and plan to strengthen our cooperation," Oleg Kuvshinnikov said. – On a visit to Belarus, we plan to attend leading enterprises and hold a joint intergovernmental commission on the development of cooperation between the Vologda Region and the Republic of Belarus. I am sure that this work will increase the foreign trade turnover between Russia and Belarus, between the Vologda Region and the Republic of Belarus."
Last year, the region's foreign trade turnover with Belarus reached a record level of USD 772 million. It increased by 46.7%. The republic ranks second in terms of foreign trade turnover and exports, third in terms of imports of products.
Traditionally, cooperation between the Vologda Region and the Republic of Belarus is characterized by an increased amount of trading activity. Mutually beneficial cooperation continues in various areas - ranging from high-tech machine-building products, modernization of agricultural enterprises and forest complex enterprises to the implementation of joint scientific and educational programs and the development of humanitarian ties.
Ferrous and non-ferrous metals, machinery, salt, fertilizers, stone, wood and wood articles dominate the oblast's export to Belarus. The imports to the Vologda Region are made up, for the most part, of vehicles, optical instruments, equipment and mechanical devices.
Trade and economic cooperation between the Vologda Region and the Republic of Belarus is based on the interaction of large industrial enterprises of metallurgical, chemical, mechanical engineering, timber industries, and agribusiness.
Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Dmitry Krutoi stressed that there are new areas for cooperation - cultural sphere and science. Both sides look forward to strengthening collaboration in these fields.
