Vologda Region and Belarus are to launch a machine-building cluster.

Today Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov met with Director General of the Minsk Tractor Works (Belarus) Fyodor Domotenko in Cherepovets. The meeting that took place at the Cherepovets Founding and Mechanical Plant was devoted to development and strengthening of partnership ties between the Republic of Belarus and the Vologda Oblast.
Mr. Kuvshinnikov stressed that the Vologda Region is interested in creating a machine-building cluster using the facilities of Cherepovets’ plants. It will allow increasing production of tractors, and the vehicles will be supplied to enterprises of agricultural, forestry and municipal sectors.
The local government and I guarantee full support to all joint projects that will be implemented on the territory of the region," added the Governor.
Today the parties signed an agreement of intent between the Vologda Region Government and the Minsk Tractor Works. The document envisages creation of favourable conditions for the development of long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation, and implementation of joint projects in the sphere of technical equipment of agro-industrial and forestry sectors.
The Vologda Oblast has been sustaining partnership ties with the Republic of Belarus since 2006 in trade, economic, scientific, and cultural spheres. The Republic of Belarus ranks among the most active CIS trade partners of the Vologda Oblast. Ferrous and non-ferrous metals, chemicals, and machinery dominate the oblast's export to Belarus. The imports to the Vologda Oblast are made up, for the most part, of chemicals, produce of engineering industry, foodstuff and agricultural goods. In 2015 foreign trade turnover between the Vologda Oblast and Belarus amounted to US$200 mln.

It is worth noting that last year the Vologda Oblast ranked first in Russia in terms of tractors manufacture.
