Vologda Oblast is stepping up cooperation with Asian countries.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, Professor Janita Abeyvikrema Liyanage, paid an official visit to Cherepovets, Vologda Region.
Vologda Region Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, Janita Liyanage discussed guidelines for cooperation between the Vologda Region and Sri Lanka in the trade and economic sphere, in agribusiness and woodworking industry.
During the meeting in Cherepovets, the head of the region spoke about regional products - mineral fertilizers, metal products, precision instruments, natural wood products, confectionery, semi finished wood products, ice cream and others.
"The Vologda Oblast is a highly-developed industrial region. It is among the TOP 10 Russian regions in terms of industrial production and exports. Despite the sanctions imposed, the region’s enterprises continue to work and supply the highest quality products to foreign countries. We are interested in cooperation, and I am glad that you have come to our region. You will be able to see it, get acquainted with our industrial and cultural potential and visit our enterprises. Perhaps, you will visit our region with a business mission, with your entrepreneurs who will be interested in supplying our unique products to your country," Oleg Kuvshinnikov stressed.
Russia and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka have been sustaining diplomatic relations for 65 years. The Vologda Region exports ferrous metals, timber and wood products, paper and cardboard to Sri Lanka. The volume of exports increases every year. In 2021, foreign trade turnover increased by 2.5 times compared to the same period in 2020.
"We have already visited one of your largest enterprises - PhosAgro, a chemical holding company producing fertilizer, phosphates and feed phosphates. We intend to continue cooperation in this field. We are to visit some other companies and hope that we will find guidelines for mutually beneficial cooperation. Sri Lanka and Russia have been sustaining friendly relations for a long time, and I think they can become stronger," said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, Professor Janita Abeyvikrema Liyanage.
The Ambassador invited Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov to visit Sri Lanka. In response, the head of the region invited Ms. Liyanage to attend a large-scale presentation of the economic, investment and cultural potential of the Vologda Region which will be held in Moscow in May with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
