Today, Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov met with Igor Milidovich, the head of the department of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in St.Petersburg.
During the meeting the patties reaffirmed their commitment to strong partnership ties and stated the importance of cooperation in the face of Western sanctions.
The Republic of Belarus and the Vologda Oblast have been sustaining partnership ties in trade, economic, scientific, and cultural spheres since 2006. For nine months of 2022, foreign trade turnover between the Vologda Oblast and Belarus increased by more than 40%. It amounted to US$552.5 mln. Ferrous and non-ferrous metals, machinery, wood and wood articles dominate the oblast's export to Belarus. The imports to the Vologda Oblast are made up, for the most part, of agricultural equipment, machines and agricultural raw material.
“We need to take a fresh look at building supply chains. By working collaboratively, we can learn from our regions’ experiences and backgrounds. We need to find those areas where we complement each other and can rely on joint experience," said Mr. Milidovich.
According to Igor Milidovich, the head of the department of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in St.Petersburg, the country is ready to supply logging and water treatment equipment to the Vologda Oblast.
Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov stressed that there are a lot of areas for joint work. "Belarus manufactures high-quality furniture, so we can discuss a joint production facility using wood from the Vologda Oblast," said the Governor.
The dialogue aiming to build mutually beneficial cooperation with a friendly country will continue during a visit of a delegation of the Vologda Oblast to the Republic of Belarus which is scheduled for the beginning of 2023.
