Vologda - Slovenia: strive to strengthen trade and economic ties

A delegation from the Vologda Oblast led by Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov arrived in the Republic of Slovenia to discuss guidelines for partnership ties. High-ranking officials of the Vologda Oblast Government, representatives of business circles and municipalities presented an economic, investment and tourism potential of the Vologda Region in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia.

“The goods turnover between the Vologda Region and the Republic of Slovenia is not significant. Nevertheless, we think that Slovenia might become a promising partner in the sphere of external relations”, noted Mr. Kuvshinnikov, Vologda Oblast Governor.

“Against a backdrop of regular exchanges of official and working delegations of the regions and sanctions against Russia we see great potential in strengthening trade, economic, scientific, cultural and tourist cooperation between the Vologda Region and the Republic of Slovenia. Every crisis opens up new opportunities, and we need to use them”, continued Vologda’s Governor.

The Vologda Oblast is one of the highly-developed regions of Russia. The Vologda Region cooperates with over 100 countries. In 2015 the external trade turnover of the Vologda Oblast amounted to about $4 bln.

There are several industrial parks in the Vologda Region. They are entitled to preferential policies as both economic and technological areas and as national-level high-tech industrial parks.

The Vologda Oblast Governor invited Slovenian businessmen to come to the Vologda Region to discuss the possibility of creating joint ventures.

Samo Hribar Milic, General Manager of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia was pleasantly surprised by the investment opportunities of the Vologda Region and accepted Oleg Kuvshinnikov’s invitation to come to Vologda.

The Slovenian diplomats and entrepreneurs expressed the desire to interact even more closely with the Vologda Oblast Government in conducting international and foreign economic activities.

Slovenia is one of the leaders in pharmaceutical industry which has been an issue of long-standing interest to the Vologda Region. Vologda's businesses export ferrous and non-ferrous metals, chemical products, timber and lumber, pellets and other products.

The Vologda Region is dynamically and self-assuredly increasing its foreign economic potential and is continuously expanding and improving its international ties as well.

Sighning of a memorandum on cooperation between the Vologda Region and the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology of Slovenia was also in the highlight of today’s discussion. It might be signed in the middle of the year.

Tomorrow the delegation from the Vologda Oblast will travel to Maribor, the second-largest city in Slovenia.
