Vologda Region shares its experience of international trade.

Vologda is hosting an international conference devoted to foreign economic activity on December 10-11.
The event is organized by the RF Ministry of Economic Development, Vologda Oblast Government, Vologda Region Development Corporation and Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship Support. The international conference is arranged with an active backing of the Russia-Britain Chamber of Commerce, the Russian-German Chamber of Foreign Trade, the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), embassies of foreign states in Russia, Enterprise Europe Network – Russia Consortium and other government-related organizations that promote mutually beneficial trade and investment.
The 3rd International conference “Foreign economic activity as a factor for efficient development of small and medium enterprises in the Russian Federation” is organized in the Russky Dom exhibition centre.
The conference was opened by Deputy Minister of the RF Ministry of Economic Development Nikolai Podguzov and Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov.
Among the participants there are over 500 guests representing the full spectrum of small- and medium-sized businesses from 62 Russian regions and 12 foreign states. They are Russian and foreign business representatives, federal and regional executive authorities, representatives of embassies and trade missions of foreign states.
All the participants of the international conference are united by their wish to support and develop small and medium business, to set up business partnership ties and to invest in Russian enterprises.
“At present small and medium-sized businesses are main employees on the Russian market, a source of scientific and technical progress, and technological innovations. They became a principal driving force of economic development in Vologda too”, noted the Governor.
Sectoral distribution of small enterprises in Vologda is characteristic of Russia as a whole. Fields of action are trade, telecommunications, construction, agriculture, and manufacturing.
Over the recent years, an effort has been made to create a legal and institutional framework for SMEs in Russia, and to establish state policies and programs of SME development. A network of private, federal, local and municipal support funds and organizations has appeared. Programs aiming to develop infrastructure, presenting a legal framework, regulation and institutions of enforcement, finance and credit support for small entrepreneurship development are adopted in the Vologda Oblast.
The Vologda Oblast Government renders assistance and a wide range of services to start-ups by creating business incubators encouraging and assisting entrepreneurship.
Vologda’s Governor and guests of the event attended the exhibition, the stands of Russian regions, foreign delegations, a stand of the Vologda Oblast devoted to infrastructure support of small- and medium-sized businesses.
The Vologda Region is among the top twenty regions in terms of industrial production per capita. Its staple products are exported to more than 100 countries.
