Vologda Oblast is stepping up cooperation with Germany

On February 14th Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov and President of the region Hannover Hauke Jagau signed a protocol of intent.
A delegation from Hannover, Germany visited the Vologda Region in September 2015. The German delegation representing leading businesses and tourist companies was led by President of Hannover Hauke Jagau. The visit was very important for the Vologda Oblast as Germany is one of the priority foreign economic partners, and Hannover is a major economic and exhibition centre of the country.
In the course of the visit to Vologda, the German guests got acquainted with economic potential of the Vologda Region, attended leading enterprises and met representatives of business circles. In addition to it, they held negotiations with PAO Severstal, one of the largest steel producers in Russia.
On February 14, 2016 the region Hannover hosted a return visit by a delegation of representatives of Vologda Oblast Government, large industrial enterprises and businessmen headed by Mr. Oleg Kuvshinnikov.
On behalf of the government of the federal land Lower Saxony Vice-Premier Stefan Wenzel welcomed Vologda’s delegation and noted that to establish mutually beneficial relations between the countries it is necessary to develop not only official links, but also friendly regional contacts.
Vologda Oblast Governor Mr. Kuvshinnikov stressed that Germany is a strategic foreign trade partner of the Russian Federation. The volume of investments of German capital into Russia’s economy is constantly growing. “So our visit to Hannover aims to develop economic relations and increase foreign trade turnover. Sanctions placed on Russia will not affect the ties that have been established”, said Oleg Kuvshinnikov.
Over nine months in 2016 the commodity turnover between the Vologda Oblast and Germany made up over EUR 153 mln.
President of the region Hannover Hauke Jagau underlined that it is necessary to develop not only economic ties, but to establish partnership links in cultural and humanitarian areas, and to organize student exchange programs.
The talks resulted in the signing of a protocol of intent between the Vologda Region and Hannover. The document was signed by Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov and President of the region Hannover Hauke Jagau in the presence of German businessmen, journalists and public figures.
“We agreed to gradually restore the volume of exports and imports between the two regions. We are ready to deliver products of metallurgy, chemistry and woodworking industry to Hannover. And German businessmen will resume supplies of high-tech equipment to the Vologda Region. Today we took the first step and we have to work hard to strengthen economic cooperation and further partnership ties between Germany and the Vologda Oblast,” concluded Mr. Kuvshinnikov.
