Italian cinema is coming to Vologda.

Vologda Oblast Governor participated in the opening of New Italian Cinema Events «N.I.C.E» in Vologda.
N.I.C.E. is a non-for-profit cultural organization that was founded in 1991 by a group of film professionals and which has consequently grown into one of the most important expressions of Italian cinematography abroad. The goal of the organization is to promote New Italian Cinema abroad, through a series of film festivals and cultural exchanges.
Every year, N.I.C.E. organizes festivals in the U.S.A. (New York and San Francisco) and Russia (Moscow Moscow, St. Petersburg and, in collaboration with the Foundation for Social and Cultural Initiatives, in a series of satellite towns such as: Kursk, Tambov, Vologda, Serghiev Posad, Kazan, Vladivostok, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarks, Sochi, Novy Urengoy, Kaliningrad, Perm, Salehkard, Samara, Togliatti), England (Durham) and China.
From April 21st throughout April 26th the 18th edition of the Nice Russia festival will present Italian cinema for Vologda’s audience. The films, together with a series of special events and retrospectives dedicated to selected masterpieces of the Italian film history, are screened in public theatres, in the presence of their directors and actors.
New Italian Cinema Events «N.I.C.E» is one of the most important events of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Cultural Activities and Tourism of Italy and also of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International cooperation.
Mr. Leonardo Bencini, the Consul General of Italy in Saint Petersburg and Mr. Oleg Kuvshinnikov, Vologda Oblast Governor had a meeting to discuss the prospect of cooperation between the Vologda Region and Italy.
The Vologda Region and Italy have been sustaining trade, economic, social and cultural ties for years. In 1999-2005 the Vologda Oblast cooperated with the autonomous region Friuli-Venezia Giulia in Italy. The parties signed a cooperation protocol which defined such priority areas of cooperation as timber industry and tourism.
The Italian Republic is among the long-standing trade partners of the Vologda Region. In 2014 the foreign trade turnover between the Vologda Region and Italy amounted to more than USD 97 m. Most of the exports from the Vologda Region is made up of ferrous metals (88.1% of total exports), and wood and wood-working articles (7.4%). The Republic of Italy delivered mechanical and electrical equipment (55%) and ferrous metals (35,2%) to the Vologda Oblast.
In November 2014 Vologda’s delegation went to Italy to carry out a presentation of the economic potential of the Vologda Oblast for the Italian business community. On a visit to Italy, Vologda’s Deputy Governor Alexei Kozhevnikov briefed on the economic potential of the Vologda Region, its investment climate and large investment projects that are underway in the region.
In March 2015 the Vologda Region Centre of Entrepreneurship Support organized a business trip of Vologda’s experts to Trieste, a city and seaport in northeastern Italy. On a visit to Italy, the delegation from Vologda met with Mr. Sergio Bolzonello, Vice President of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The business trip allowed representatives of Vologda Oblast, a wood producing region, to establish business partnership links with Italian companies, to exchange experiences and to promote the Vologda producers in the Italian market.
“We are ready to develop mutually beneficial relationships with the Vologda Region", noted Consul General of Italy in St. Petersburg Mr. Leonardo Bencini. The visiting Consul General also mentioned that there is a program between the Italian Government and the Government of the Russian Federation for teaching of languages - Italian in Russia and Russian in Italy. If there is some interest in Vologda, the Italian party will be glad to cooperate in this direction too.
Oleg Kuvshinnikov assured that our region is ready to participate in this project, aimed primarily at increasing the tourist flow in both countries.
