Today, Russia is marking the Heroes of the Fatherland Day.
09.12.2015 15:59

Russia marks the Heroes of the Fatherland Day since 2007. The date, December 9, commemorates the Russian historical tradition of honouring the holders of the Order of Saint George, which was established on this day in 1769. The St George ribbon has become the symbol of military valour and the symbol of victory.
On this day we are honouring those who have especially distinguished themselves in the military field, made a great contribution to strengthening our country’s security, and performed acts of courage.
Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov and Army General Yury Baluyevsky went to Sokol to visit a state-run school in the Vologda Region where students aged 11 to 17 undergo military training in addition to traditional schooling.
The school’s main task is to provide general education and also offer additional educational programmes to prepare students for future work in public service. Military-patriotic training is an important part of the cadets’ education.
