The letter reads: “In 2015 we marked the 70th anniversary of Victory Day. World War II involved the vast majority of the world's nations including all of the great powers. Marked by mass deaths of civilians and the strategic bombing of industrial and population centres it resulted in millions of fatalities. Unfortunately, there are people who want to rewrite history, revise the outcome of the war. The Prague authorities are mulling dismantling a monument to renowned Soviet marshal Ivan Konev. For us, residents of the Vologda Region, the feat of our fellow countryman will remain a symbol of courage and patriotic spirit. Vologda’s residents insist that the monument should stay.”
