Father Frost's Sochi residence will open on the eve of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, Vologda authorities have announced. The 7.5-meter-tall two-storey building, with a total area of 526 square meters, was built at a Vologda-based factory before being transferred to Sochi's Olympic Park and assembled there during two weeks. According to a Vologda City Hall press release, "the official inauguration of Father Frost's [Olympic] residence is scheduled for the 6th of February."
Father Frost's Sochi residence contains a reception room, an arts-and-crafts workshop, a post office and a stage where performance groups from all across the country will be invited to perform. A large New Year tree has been installed outside the main entrance, and a fine collection of Vologda lace has just been sent to Sochi to decorate the interior of the compound. "Some of the most brilliant examples of Vologda lacework have been sent to the Olympic host city: seven panels, a gown, a vest, a kerchief and a scarf," the press release reads.
Traditional northern Russian arts and crafts to be featured in Father Frost's Olympic workshop along with Vologda lacework will include nielloed silverware, Shemogod carved birch-tree bark and paintings on wood.
