London — Russian mining and steel group Severstal said July 7 it started to ship iron ore pellets to steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional in Brazil, as it expands sales to new regions.

The shipment concluded is for the first batch of pellets totaling more than 100,000 mt, bound for Brazil's largest fully integrated steel producer, CSN, Severstal said in a statement.

At the turn of the twentieth century, the photographer Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky undertook a quest to document an empire that was undergoing rapid change due to industrialization and the building of railroads. Between 1903 and 1916 Prokudin-Gorsky, who developed a pioneering method of capturing color images on glass plates, scoured the Russian Empire with the patronage of Nicholas II. Intrepidly carrying his cumbersome and awkward camera from the western borderlands over the Volga River to Siberia and central Asia, he created a singular record of Imperial Russia.

“I was astonished by power of the Vologda church, and its spirit,” said the famous Italian architect Elisabetta Fabbri having visited the dilapidated Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit. While spending a few days in Vologda, the Master of Architecture, a member of the Venice Order of Architects and Conservation Professionals, the conservation architect of Teatro alla Scala and other opera houses in Italy, and the recipient of the presidential order supported the restoration of the church and gave valuable recommendations. She inspired Vologda students to restoration feats and told her Russian colleagues about modern restoration trends and techniques used in Europe.
