International Forum "Society for Safety" opened in Vytegra

The International Forum “Society for Safety” is taking place on 6 June 2013 at Training and rescue center of The Russian Emergencies Ministry "Vytegra" in Vologda Region. The event is led by Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters Sergey Shlyakov.
The Forum is attended by Directors-General of civil protection services of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS), heads of subjects of the Russian Federation in Northwestern Federal District, honoured rescuers and rescuers of international class. Yuri Vorobyov, Vice-Chairman of Federation Council of Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Hero of Russia, Honoured rescuer of the Russian Federation is among the guests of honour.
The Forum is dedicated to matters of building and implementation of state policy in the field of voluntary movement directed on providing safety and rescuing people in emergency situations and on consolidation of cooperation and partnership between voluntary organizations.
Agendas of special meetings includes "Experience of joint activity of public associations", "Coordination of activity of voluntary organizations during operations in emergency areas", "Voluntary fire department as an element of civil society" and others.
Tactic special exercises are taking place at Lake Onega. The objective of the exercises is to practice organization of cooperation and exchange of information on the immediate situation between the interested ministries and agencies while responding to man-made emergency situations at the Volga-Baltic channel.
All the operations are being practiced simultaneously in three subjects: the Republic of Karelia, Leningrad and Vologda Regions. According to the scenario of exercises in Petrozavodsk oil products were spilled at Lake of Onega due to a shipwreck. The like scenario is provided for the town of Vysotsk in Leningrad Region, where environmental catastrophe is going to be eliminated in the Gulf of Finland. In Vologda Region they will check response to a collision of a dry cargo ship and a passenger motor vessel.
The extensive programme of the Forume includes laying flowers to the Memorial on Andoma mountain, consecration of a building site for the chapel of saint Jonah Klimenetsky and laying of a commemorative capsule at its foundation, tours of facilities of the Training and rescue center, meeting with members of historic and patriotic club "Korabely Prionezhya" (Shipbuilders of Onega Region) established with participation of the Russian Union of Rescuers and a concert with participation of songwriters and singers – winners and laureates of the Second Festival of original songs.
