With the arrival of first frosts in St. Petersburg, Father Frost from Veliky Ustyug visited the Presidential Library. He arrived at the Media Forum of the Northwest held there.
Father Frost had a tour to the conference hall and reading room, equipped with everything you need to browse and work with historical documents in a multimedia format, drew attention to the fact that the new architecture had increased the functionality of the Synod building.
Father Frost was also surprised by electronic signature, which he left while receiving a library card, he was also impressed by an opportunity to leave comments in the visitors’ e-book. In the Constitution hall was happy to flip through interactive pages of the electronic version of the singular inaugural copy of the Constitution. Father Frost immediately noted: "So, you are the most modern library!"
In the electronic reading room Father Frost was shown the most ancient document in the collections. It was Ostromir Gospel dated back to 1057. "The document is older that Vologda, older than Moscow!" said Father Frost. He learned that every reader can access the library’s collections without leaving home, from his computer. Today, about 40% of all materials are freely available on the website. On the whole, there are more than 325,000 items. It was immediately proposed to enrich the Presidential Library collections through digitization of historical documents and studies devoted to the Russian Father Frost.
After the tour, Father Frost met with Director General of the Presidential Library, Alexander Vershinin. Father Frost was given a library card in perpetuity.
"It is permanent," said Father. Symbolically, the library card number is 35, which is the official number of the Vologda region.
