10.06.2019 10:10

Vologda Region is stepping up cooperation with Czech Republic in scientific sphere.

Cooperation between the Vologda Region and the Czech Republic was discussed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Vitaly Tushinov, Deputy Governor of the Vologda Region met with Consul for Trade and Economic Affairs of the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in St. Petersburg.

Mr. Tushinov noted that several priority areas for cooperation were indicated during the meeting. First of all, the Cherepovets State University suggested developing students and teachers exchange programmes between the Czech educational institutions and the Cherepovets University, as well as to carry out joint research projects.

The second guideline for cooperation is connected with joint investment project. Several years ago PhosAgro received EUR 73.4 Million Long-Term Loan from UniCredit Bank with EGAP Guarantee for Construction of New Urea Capacity in Cherepovets, Vologda Region.

The funds from this loan were used for project documentation and acquisition of equipment from the Czech engineering firm Chemoproject Nitrogen a.s. for the construction of a granulated urea production line with a capacity of 500 ths tonne/year at PhosAgro-Cherepovets in the Vologda Region.

The new facility was put into operation in 2017. It is on par with the world’s leading urea production lines in terms of energy efficiency, raw material consumption, labour output, uptime between repairs, and ecological safety.

The Vologda Region is also ready to step up cooperation with the Czech Republic on the territory of industrial parks located in the Vologda Region. The parks are entitled to preferential policies as both an economic and technological area and as a national-level high-tech industrial park. The industrial parks encourage the development of industries and businesses which are economically efficient, high in added value and technology intensive.

In May 2019, a delegation from the Czech Republic led by Governor of Zlín region Jiri Cunek arrived in the Vologda Region. Among the members of the delegation there were high-ranking officials of the Zlín Region of the Czech Republic and businessmen.

On a visit to Vologda, the Czech delegation met with Vologda Region Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov, Deputy Governor Vitaly Tushinov, representatives of the Vologda Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Vologda’s business circles. The meeting participants discussed mutually beneficial cooperation, topical issues that concern Russian and Czech entrepreneurs, in particular the prospects for expanding collaboration in agriculture and machine-building industry.
