Vologda's most popular parks and national preserves are Russky Sever National Park (Russian North) and Darwin Nature Reserve.
Russky Sever National Park is a national park in the north of Russia, located in the southern part of Kirillovsky District, about 100 kilometres (62 mi) northeast of Vologda. This is one of the unique places of the Russian North. Russky Sever National Park covers approximately 166,400 hectares (642.5 sq mi).
Darwin Nature Reserve serves for protection of forests, nesting and resting places of waterfowls on the Rybinsk Reservoir, and spawning grounds. The total area of the reserve is 112 thousand hectares: 67 thousand hectares is occupied by land and the rest of the area is occupied by water.
