Vologda Oblast is stepping up cooperation with Belarus.

Prospects for further cooperation between the Vologda Region and the Republic of Belarus were discussed at the 16th meeting of the joint Commission for the development of cooperation between the Vologda Region Government and the Government of the Republic of Belarus via video conference. The parties discussed the results of trade and economic cooperation, and their future prospects.
Traditionally, cooperation between the Vologda Region and the Republic of Belarus is characterized by an increased amount of trading activity. Mutually beneficial cooperation continues in various areas - ranging from high-tech machine-building products, modernization of agricultural enterprises and forest complex enterprises to the implementation of joint scientific and educational programs and the development of humanitarian ties.
The Vologda Oblast has been sustaining partnership ties with the Republic of Belarus for almost 15 years. The Republic of Belarus ranks among the most active CIS trade partners of the Vologda Oblast. In 2019 foreign trade turnover between the Vologda Oblast and Belarus amounted to US$ 448,3 mln. Ferrous and non-ferrous metals, machinery, salt, fertilizers, stone, wood and wood articles dominate the oblast's export to Belarus. The imports to the Vologda Oblast are made up, for the most part, of vehicles, optical instruments, equipment and mechanical devices.
Trade and economic cooperation between the Vologda Oblast and the Republic of Belarus is based on the interaction of large industrial enterprises of metallurgical, chemical, mechanical engineering, timber industries, and agribusiness.
The Chairman of the Vologda Oblast Government stressed that there are new areas for cooperation - fish-breeding and timbered house-building.
Both sides also look forward to strengthening collaboration in other fields such as mechanical engineering, light industry, agribusiness, forestry and education.
Wrapping up the video conference, the first Deputy Governor of the Vologda Region invited partners from the Republic of Belarus to come to Vologda for Victory Day events marking the 75th anniversary of the Soviet defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II.
