Every year on May 18, museum workers around the world celebrate their professional holiday - the International Museum Day.
There are 40 museums In the Vologda Region. The largest of them are the Kirillo–Belozersky Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve, the Museum of Dionysius Frescoes in Ferapontovo, the Vasily Belov Apartment Museum in Vologda, Vologda Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve, Veliky Ustyug Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve, Belozersk Regional Museum of Local Lore, Vologda Regional Art Gallery, Totma museum association and Cherepovets museum association.
The main fund of the museums is more than one million items of storage. These are collections of archeology, handwritten and old printed books, iconography, paintings, graphics , sculpture, jewelry, decorative and applied arts and folk art.
