On March 21st Vologda Region joins International Day of Forests.

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March the International Day of Forests (IDF) in 2012. The Day celebrates and raises awareness of the importance of all types of forests.
On each International Day of Forests, countries are encouraged to undertake local, national and international efforts to organize activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns.
The theme for each International Day of Forests is chosen by the Collaborative Partnership on Forests. The theme of 2018 celebrations is Forests and Sustainable Cities.
The Vologda Oblast is a vast wooded area with some 72% of its total land covered with forests. Wood is the most precious treasure of the region. 10,03 mln hectares of the area are covered by forest vegetation.
Forest is the most valuable strategic resource of Russia, an important component of ecological and economic safety of a country. Our first aim is to provide efficient use and restoration of forest potential of our country.
