07.09.2016 10:36
36th International FISAE Congress was held in the ancient Russian city of Vologda in August 2016. There were over 200 delegates, from 15 countries, with good representation from continental Europe and the Far East (China, Poland, Italy, Belarus, Bulgaria, Romania, Germany, France, Finland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and others).
The Congress brought a lot of special books, magazines and collections from around the world, dedicated to the engraving and ex-libris. The collectors, artists, scholars, historians and researchers from 15 countries participated in discussions pertaining to bookplate issues, ex-libris development, scientific description and publication of the bookplate.
The Congress featured 1500 works of 383 artists from 39 countries. This was one of the largest shows of contemporary art of exlibris in the world. All the works were donated to the Vologda Picture Gallery and now the residents of the city and visitors can get an idea about the contemporary world of ex-libris. The exhibition boasts works by German, Bulgarian, Turkish, Italian, Polish and Russian artists.
The peculiarity of the exhibition is that it brings together very diverse material. National artistic features of the European countries and uniqueness of the bookplate from the countries of the East can be traced here.
