Yulia Tchekaleva
Yulia Tchekaleva (born on February 6, 1984 in Vologda to a family of sportsmen) is a Russian cross country skier who has competed since 2004.
The girl took up skiing at the age of eight, her first coach being Vera Zheltukhina. Yulia graduated from the Vologda Institute of Law and Economics. Now the skier is affiliated with the Severstal sports club.
In 2006 Yulia won two bronze medals at the Junior World Championships in Slovenia and became a master of sports of international class.
At the World Cup event in 2007 (Rybinsk, Russia) her best finish was 11th in a 15 km event.
At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo, she finished 16th in the 10 km and 22nd in the 30 km events.
At Harbin Winter Universiade in February, 2009 (China) Yulia Tchekaleva had three podium finishes. She took home the gold in 3x5 km relay, the silver in 5 km freestyle competition and the bronze in 10 km M Pursuit.
During the Women's event of the FIS Tour De Ski on January 7, 2010 in Toblach Hochpustertal, Italy Yulia Tchekaleva settled for an 8th finish in 5 km sprint.
On January 23, 2010 at the women's World Cup 15km Pursuit (7.5km C + 7.5km F) in Rybinsk (Russia) Yulia Tchekaleva took the 4th spot with 42:12.9 and became a spare of the national team for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.
