Anna Bogaliy-Titovets

The Russian biathlon team has provided some fantastic champions: Dmitry Vasilyev, Anatoly Alyabyev, Anfisa Reztsova, Albina Akhatova, Sergei Chepikov. A special palace should also be reserved for the successes of Vologda's own - Anna Bogaliy-Titovets.
Anna Ivanovna Bogaliy-Titovets, a Russian biathlete, was born on June 12, 1979 in Vozhega, Vologda Oblast. When Anna was eighteen months the family proceeded to Murmansk. Till the age of five the little girl was brought up by her grandmother Elena Malakhova. Then she moved to Murmansk too and in 1991 took up biathlon there, her first coach being Vladimir Shchukin.
She has been a member of the Russian team since 2000. In 2001 she won the gold medal with the Russian team at the World Championship in Slovenia and was given the rank of Honoured master of sports. In 2002 Anna participated in the Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City and took the 18th place in sprint.
At the 2004 World Cup event Anna Bogaliy-Titovets won the silver medal with the Russian relay team and she also won the gold medal in the mass start in Slovenia, and the bronze medal in the mass start held in Italy.
At the 2004 World Championship in Oberhof she had three podium finishes, two in second place (7.5 km sprint and 4x6 km relay), and came third in the 10 km pursuit.
At the 2005 World Championship in Hochfilzen Anna became world champion in 4x6 km relay and she made the podium in second place in mixed relay.
At the 2006 Winter Olympics, Bogaliy-Titovets won gold on the 4x6 km relay.
After a break in the 2008 season, she returned in March 2009. In December, 2009 Anna Bogaliy-Titovets only had to accept defeat to Svetlana Sleptsova (RUS) in the Womens 7.5 km sprint at the biathlon World Cup event in Pokljuka, Slovenia.

Anna graduated from the St. Petersburg State University of Physical Culture.
The residents of Vozhega are always glad to see Anna who comes to see her grandmothers every year.
