Mikhail Yuriev
Doctor of Engineering Sciences
Mikhail Yuriev was born in Vologda in 1893 into a teacher's family. He was educated in the Vologda gymnasium, graduating from St.Petersburg University, where he earned a University degree in physics and mathematics in 1915.
Mikhail Yuriev was a professional soldier for 42 years from World War I to 1956, during which time he rose to the rank of Colonel Engineer. Additionally, he pursued a career as a research worker, he taught physics at the Academy of Military Engineering, and later at the Army Medical College in Leningrad.
From 1918 to 1941 Yuriev worked in the State Optical Institute, one of the first research institutes of the USSR.
His further academic achievements include a Doctor of Engineering Sciences degree that he received following his retirement in 1956.
From 1962 Mikhail Yuriev worked at the faculty of biophysics of Leningrad State University. Yuriev's civilian awards include the Lenin Distinguished Service Order, two Orders of Red Banner and medals.
