Russian-French seminar on money and banking in Russian economy, Vologda, December 10-14, 2007

From December 10 through 14, 2007 Vologda is to host a Russian-French seminar on Money and Banking in Russian economics.

The seminar was established in 1991 by the Institution of the Humanities (France) and the Russian Academy of Sciences. Its co-directors are Victor V. Ivanter, Director of the RAS Institute of economic forecasting, Doctor in Economics, Professor, Full Academy Member of RAS and Jacques Sapir, Professor in Economics, Director of the CEMI Research Center at EHESS.

The seminar is to focus on the financing of the economic growth in Russia, the role of financial institutions in this process and the regional aspects of social and economic development of the country in terms of globalization. The main objective of a weekly economics seminar is to elaborate a plan of actions concerning a reform of Russia's finance and credit system, and to increase the effectiveness of management of the social and economic development on the federal and regional levels.

The program of the seminar also includes visits to some leading enterprises in the Vologda Oblast - OAO Severstal, the nation's second-largest steel company by tonnage, and the Vologda Optical and Mechanical Plant. The participants in the event are to attend some institutions of higher education and see the sights of Vologda, Cherepovets and Kirillov.
