Since 1997 the Vologda Oblast has been home to the All-Russian Fair and Exhibition "Russian Flax". The Fair has become traditional annual and one of the most significant events in Russian linen industry. The organizers are RF Ministry of Agriculture, RF Ministry of Trade and Commerce, and the Vologda Oblast Government. Being the official event of the Vologda Oblast Government, the Russian Flax is attended by new firms thanks to mass media support.

The main advantage of the exhibition-fair is its grasp of the customer needs. Participation in the fair gives an opportunity for establishing new business contacts and promotion of companies' brands among Russian and foreign customers. The Russian Flax boasts an excellent international representation year after year. Foreign companies from Belarus, Ukraine, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland are involved in exhibition activities as well as hundreds of Russian enterprises.

On a visit to the Russian Flax in March 2008, Russia's Agriculture Minister Aleksei Gordeev noted that the exhibition-fair should have the status of an international annual event, and Vologda should be turned into a Russian centre for manufacture of flax fibre and flaxen goods.

An extensive business and entertainment program of the exhibition-fair - scientific conferences, round tables, seminars, gala performances, competitions of fabric, clothes, textile and souvenirs attract a large number of participants and visitors to the fair.

It is expected that the Russian Flax - 2009 will be visited by such honorary guests as Russia's Agriculture Minister, President of the Russian Silhouette Fund Tatyana Mikhalkova, General Director of the Fashion House, President of an international competition "Velvet season", Professor Vyacheslav Zaitsev and others.

The participants of the Russian Flax - 2009 - representatives of agricultural enterprises and textile factories, machine-building companies, scientists, businessmen and designers will demonstrate innovation technologies to be applied in the linen industry, in production of technological equipment for textile industry and manufacture of flax fibre and flaxen goods. Looms, spinning equipment and accessories will be on display too.

The program highlights includes a whole range of seminars, expositions, a competition among weavers, a competition "Silver Bobbin", a competition of fabric, clothes, footwear and accessories collection "Flax - in Goods of Russia" and a gala performance of winners.

The Russian Flax contributes to further development of linen industry and national economy and to establishing international commercial and industrial contacts. It strengthens the interest of the nations in each other's production and helps to draw foreign investors. One of the aims is to highlight the myriad applications of flax as a material, and to present the full range of technologies developed abreast with the latest developments in the linen industry.
