On March 6 Deputy Head of Vologda’s Department of Economic Development Yuri Senko is to participate in a meeting of the Sub-Commission on interregional cooperation of Japan-Russia Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Issues that will be held in Moscow.
This Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Issues is the only forum for comprehensive talks in which all kinds of issues pertaining to Japan-Russia economic relations are discussed at the ministerial level, that is, between the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Minister of Regional Development of the Russian Federation.
Representatives from 15 Russian regions are invited to participate in the meeting of Sub-Commissions. The main objective of the event is to define guidelines for future collaboration between Russia and Japan.
A primary focus of activity between Japan and Vologda Oblast is economy. In November 2013, a presentation of investment potential and investment projects of the Vologda Oblast was carried out for representatives of Japanese companies operating in Moscow and Moscow Region. The aim of the event was to expand cooperation between the Vologda Oblast and Japan and help Vologda’s enterprises find new business partners.
There is a good example of successful cooperation of OAO PhosAgro-Cherepovets that signed a contract with an international consortium led by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd for construction of a new, energy efficient ammonia production plant at PhosAgro-Cherepovets in the Vologda Region. The new line is expected to have an ammonia production capacity of 2,200 tonnes/day (760 ths tonnes/year). The contract was signed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June 2013.
