Vologda Branch of Russian Geographical Society marks its 60th anniversary.

Russian Geographical Society, all-Russian non-governmental organization, promotes exploration and geography with research programmes in fields including oceanography and ethnography.
Regional branches of the Society operate in all subjects of the Russian Federation, the Vologda Oblast among them.
In 2012 Sergei Shoigu and Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov signed a cooperation agreement between the Russian Geographical Society and the Vologda Oblast Government.
According to the document, the parties shall promote the study, development and exploration of the region when implementing scientific, environmental, social programs and projects. Development and introduction of the latest scientific achievements in the field of environmental protection is another area for collaboration.
Vologda’s branch of the Russian Geographical Society assists the Vologda Region in implementation of environmental and tourism projects, in organization of joint conferences, expeditions, competitions, festivals and exhibitions.
The Russian Geographical Society contributes to promotion of geography, local history and other sciences related to them, helps to cultivate respect for nature and love for the native land.
