VI International Gavrilin Festival came to a close in Vologda.

The festival which lasted from October 1 through December 2, 2014 is named after Valery Gavrilin, the great Russian composer, People's artist of Russia who was born in Vologda.

The festival was organized by the RF Ministry of Culture with an active backing of the Vologda Oblast Government, Department of Culture, Tourism, and Preservation of Objects of Historical Heritage and the Vologda Philharmonic Society. The main objective of the event is to reveal new talents and to perpetuate the memory of Valery Gavrilin.

The festival was included in the Program of the Year of Culture in the Russian Federation. This year it was devoted to the 75th anniversary of the birth of Valery Gavrilin, the Year of Culture and the 70th anniversary of the Vologda Philharmonic Society. His compositions were performed by the Governor's orchestra of Russian folk instruments, the Ensemble of Folk Music and Dance "Russian North", Cherepovets Chamber Choir, Vologda Philharmonic Society and musical ensembles and groups from Russian regions and abroad.

This year musicians from Russian regions, the CIS and foreign countries performed almost 160 concerts, took part in master classes and other festival events.

The head of the Department of Culture, Tourism, and Preservation of Objects of Historical Heritage of the Vologda Region expressed hope that the VII international Gavrilin Music Festival which will take place in 2017 will become even more interesting.
