The 2nd International Lace Festival VITA LACE came to a close.

The 2nd International Lace Festival VITA LACE was indicated by the Vologda Oblast Government as one of the priority cultural events in 2014.
Vologda has always been one of the main centres of Russian lace tatting, and in the 19th century it became the most famous one. It was that time when lace-makers began to tat lace patterns in the form of wonderful stars and snowflakes. Vologda lace reminds of hoarfrost on winter glass, which will disappear under the first rays of the March sun. It looks like a thin spider line, which will be torn by a waft of wind.
This year the Festival was devoted to the 22nd Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. Vologda’s laces were used in the Olympic patchwork quilt.
The scope of the event was impressive. From June, 26th to 28th over 500 participants from 28 regions of Russia and 7 foreign countries took part in the festival.
Among honourary guests of the festival there were such key figures as Mr. Pierre Helg, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Switzerland in the Russian Federation, Ruth Scheidegger-Meier, daughter of the famous Swiss writer Gerhard Meier who headed the Swiss delegation, deputy head of the Moravian-Silesian region of the Czech Republic Svyatomir Retsman, Jan Chapic from Prešov government, Slovakia.
The highlights of the festival included an exposition "Lace of Olympus", round-table discussions, business meetings, master-classes on lace-making and a lace fashion show. Valentin Yudashkin, Russia's most famous fashion designer visited the lace festival and presented his collection.
The program of VITA LACE festival also included seminars and workshops encompassing almost all issues associated with the current domestic and world linen market state.
A populous lace-making workshop took place in Vologda on June 27th. 300 lace-makers from different regions of Russia and foreign countries gave a master class in the art of lace-making in the city's central square. The lace-makers from Ireland, Australia, the Czech Republic and South Africa as well as representatives from 17 Russian regions and 15 districts of the Vologda Oblast took part in this campaign.
II international lace festival VITA LACE in Vologda brought together participants from many regions of Russia and foreign countries. Leaving Vologda, the guests talked about the fact that the festival gives the opportunities to establish new business contacts and promote goods among Russian customers.
