Russian Pancake Week marks the end of winter and coming of spring with the Great Lent after it.

From February 24 to March 2 residents and guests of Vologda City are celebrating the folk festivity dedicated to seeing off winter and welcoming spring. It is held in the framework of the festival "Winter of Russian North" initiated by Governor Georgy Filimonov.

Whole week long Russians eat pancakes, invite guests over and participate in different outdoor festive events. The culmination of the week is burning down a big straw doll symbolizing winter.
